This presentation helps in teaching how to plan, execute and close a Kaizen blitz/event.

Even though Kaizen refers to small-steps, continuous improvement activities, many companies embrace the Kaizen Blitz or workshop. It is customary that such events last up to a week and they are aimed at improving a certain area/process/activity. Whether the purpose is to increase the throughput, to organize the workplace (5S), to minimize the set up time (SMED), to reduce the defects (Poka Yoke), to improve the ergonomics or any other number of diverse reasons, the structure of a Kaizen event is similar. This 61-slide presentation follows the agenda: - Kaizen Basics
- Definition
- Why Kaizen
- Characteristics
- Principles
- Kaizen Road Map
- Planning Stage
- Define – Identify Opportunities, Brainstorm, Select team, Communicate , Scoping, Facilities
- Measure – Establish Baseline, Set Goals and Metrics
- Execution Stage
- Analyze/Improve – Perform workshop/event
- Post Event Stage
- Control – Follow up Meetings, Update Financials Close Project
- Addendum: Kaizen History, Forms, Examples
It is accompanied by footnotes for the instructor. The point I’d like to make is that is extremely important to follow all the stages proposed in this presentation. Defining the problem, setting the baseline, making the changes and tracking the results are similar to knowing where you want to go, where you are, how you will get to the destination and ensuring that you arrived safely there. And then you can see the next “mountain” to climb, the next improvement that can be seen only from that vantage point, once you closed the kaizen event. As opportunities for improvement never end.....
