Toyota uses this tool to identify the root cause of a problem.
In itself, 5 Whys is not a problem solving methodology, but part of the methodology.

Though it seems simplistic to find the root cause by asking Why? 5 times, it is far from being easy, as you may have discovered along the way.
Why? Mainly because the right thinking is not applied. And this determined us to create this presentation, hoping that you'll find it useful in teaching your people to apply correctly the 5 steps in determining the root cause of any problem, either on the plant floor or in the business transactions.
Practically, this methodology can be applied everywhere.
At the end of the presentation, you'll find two examples of how the technique was applied to find the root cause of some issues in:
- manufacturing
- purchasing
